Why Everyone Needs a Tote Bag

I can tell you honestly, tote bags have changed my life. I started using a tote summer of 2021; it was a trend within my work community and I wanted to know what the hype was about. Turns out the tote bag is not overrated in the slightest. In fact it may be underrated.
The versatility of the tote bag is simply unmatched. It can be used literally everyday of the year. Whether you’re dressing up for a fancy event or running errands in sweats and a sweatshirt, the tote bag can go with every look, style, and aesthetic. When picking out a tote bag, I usually prefer choosing a bag with a neutral color palette, so it can be used as a staple that goes with every outfit. Of course, if you predominately wear more of one color, absolutely pick a bag that reflects your main color scheme/aesthetic. As an example, I wore a black mini dress and a black and gray shacket with lugged converse to my birthday dinner and paired it with a canvas Van Gogh tote. While I did dress my mini dress down with converse and a jacket, the tote still would have been compatible with the dress and a pair of booties.
Not only is the tote bag versatile, it’s also practical.
Ways to use a tote bag:
as a produce or grocery bag. I am fully in my Pinterest era when I walk into Trader Joes with my trusty grocery tote and netted produce bag. Something about it just makes me feel like a put together human being ready to conquer the day.
as a school bag. It is extremely easy to slip your laptop and a notebook into your tote. There’s even extra room for supplies, your phone, and wallet/keys. Especially when attending school in a large city, being practical and functional while also looking put together is a necessity.
in place of a purse. This one is an obvious key identity of the tote bag. It is perfect to fit all your necessities. You never have to worry about not having enough room.
as a gift bag. I gave all of my friends tote bags for Christmas, putting a bouquet of flowers and a few trinkets inside. It helps reduce wrapping paper waste and while giving the recipient a bag they can use for everyday life.
Make it stand out
Totes are personal to your style. They come in a range of styles, patterns, shapes, and textures. For the cottage-core lover there are knit tote bags with an expansive color palettes ranging from pastels to neon. Perfect for carrying flowers and a journal. For the boss lady, there are high quality and even designer tote bags, perfect for carrying your laptop and planner. For the petite artiste, a tote is perfect for a trip to the library or an art exhibit. You can even rep your favorite art piece on the bag!
Overall, I religiously believe tote bags are perfect in every way possible. They have changed my life. I hope if you decided to start creating your own collection, you will love them just as much as I do! You won’t be disappointed :)
Supporting Local Businesses
Totes can be used advertise a brand or business. Since they’re relatively trendy, totes are a great way to build small businesses. Not only will you increase sales, but totes are basically free advertising walking around! I absolutely love when I find a cute tote bag that promotes a brand or business. While I have tote bags that advertise (The New Yorker, Cosmopolitan, and the immersive Van Gogh exhibit), I love seeing small businesses promoting themselves through totes! The coffee shop where I work is getting tote bags soon; I can guarantee before they hit the shelves, my coworkers and I will be snatching them up!
Activism through Fashion
Totes can also be used to promote activism and bring awareness. Many bags I’ve seen throughout urban areas promote some sort of activism. If you are comfortable sharing your political opinions on social and economic issues, tote bags are a trendy way to bring awareness and actively represent a social issue. Whether you want to promote climate change, gender and racial equality, recycling, saving the ecosystems, etc., there’s a tote bag for you! It might take a little searching but I believe in you! Go change the world, one tote at a time!
THEY ARE SUSTAINABLE
-at least way more sustainable than plastic alternatives.
Reusable bags are an amazing way to cut back on the use of plastic. Just think, when using a reusable produce bag, you will no longer have to go through the hassle of getting aggravating and quite frankly ugly plastic produce bags open. Plus, you wont have to worry about what to do with your grocery bags later on! However, if you prefer plastic grocery bags or don’t have a grocery tote, please consider donating them to organizations that make mats for the homeless out of recycled plastic bags!
So basically… Go out and get yourself a tote. If you already have one, go get another one.
